We deal exclusively with silk whose breeding, harvesting and processing takes place under ecologically sound and social considerations.

Our silk fabrics - whether mulberry silk, eri silk or tussah silk - come from organic farming by small farmers and weavers in India and Turkey.

Sustainable farming & healthy habitats

The food plants for silkworms mostly grow naturally in their region.

The mulberry trees are grown in mixed culture with fruit and other trees - this protects the soil, preserves biodiversity and prevents the consequences of monoculture.

No chemical fertilizers, antibiotics or hormones are used.

Fungicides, insecticides and genetically modified substances are also prohibited.

To protect the caterpillars and their leaves, the trees are encased in large protective nets. Once the caterpillars have pupated, the cocoons are stored in protected locations until the butterflies are ready to emerge – entirely in keeping with the Peace Silk philosophy.

Only then does the processing begin - without harmful chemicals.

Organic certification: Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)

A large proportion of our silk fabrics - especially from India - are produced according to the GOTS standard, one of the strictest global standards for ecological and social sustainability in the textile industry.

(Learn more about GOTS here)

Various circumstances in India and its legislation have unfortunately prevented our main manufacturer from currently providing GOTS certification. However, they assure us that production will continue to the same high standards.
The network of many small farmers in rural areas of India sometimes makes a complete renewal of certificates very difficult.
Since we know our main manufacturer personally, we believe his words and are convinced that he will maintain the high standards he has built up over the last 10 years.
