We deal exclusively with silk whose breeding, harvesting and processing takes place under ecologically sound and social considerations.

Our silk fabrics - whether mulberry silk, eri silk or tussah silk - come from organic farming by small farmers and weavers in India and Turkey.

Sustainable Silk Farming & Healthy Habitats

  • The food plants for silkworms mostly grow naturally in their region.
  • The mulberry trees are grown in mixed cultivation with fruit and other trees - this
supports soil protection, promotes biodiversity, and helps counteract the effects of monoculture.
  • No chemical fertilizers, antibiotics or hormones are used.
  • Fungicides, insecticides and genetically modified substances are also prohibited.

To protect the caterpillars and their leaves, the trees are encased in large protective nets. Once the caterpillars have pupated, the cocoons are stored in protected locations until the butterflies are ready to emerge – entirely in keeping with the Peace Silk philosophy.

Only then does the processing begin - without harmful chemicals.

About the GOTS Standard

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is considered one of the strictest global standards for ecological and social sustainability in the textile industry. Learn more about GOTS here

Due to various circumstances and legislation in India, our main manufacturer is currently unable to provide GOTS certification. The processing itself remains unchanged: still without harsh chemicals or hormones.

The network of many small-scale farmers in rural regions of India can sometimes make uninterrupted certificate renewal very difficult.

We have known our main manufacturer personally for over ten years and have built a close, trusted working relationship with him during this time. Over these years, he has worked to develop Peace Silk in this environmentally conscious quality and across a wide variety of fabric types.
